Yes, today I am mentioning those principles in front of you, the Principal of my MBM Engineering College, Late Late. VG Garde Sahib had adopted. Though almost 50 years have passed since I left college and Garde Saheb Devlok Gaman has also been done many years ago, the glimpse of his personality and his excellent principles are still alive in my mind.
- He was very punctual. Exactly at 7:35AM would have reached the college prayer place. A Dulichand Mistry would match his alarm clock, which he had with him, every day to the clock of Garde Saheb and matched the clock hanging in all the classrooms of the college. The prayer would start exactly at 7:40AM. Then every student, employee or professor, wherever he was, stopping his cycle / car etc. would stand till the end of the prayer. The students would appear in the class exactly at 8:00AM and the door of the class would be closed for 5 minutes.
- When he went out to inspect the college, if there was any mistake of the students of any class, he would have called only the head of the department. We did not see him openly talking to any student.
- He was not a follower of politicians. Once there was a big event in the college, in which a minister was also called. The Minister was half an hour late, then Garde Sahib started the proceedings of the House and started his speech. Then when the minister came, he said – I have delayed coming here today, sorry for that, after taking your seat, Bale-Garde sir, you can start your speech.
- His boy in college whose name was A.V. There was Garde, he also studied in our college, but he never went to Garde’s (Father) sahab’s office. Different buildings in the college, students of different engineering subjects They knew each other less. I came to know, in the second year, when one day his name was read on the notice board of the college. The principal and his son lived at a distance of about 3 kilometers from the college, but Garde Saheb used to come to the college in a blue colored ambassador car and his son used to cycle from the same bungalow to the college. It is said that one day in the evening the principal was going to his residence by car, then on the way the driver stopped the car at one place. He asked the driver – why did the car stop? The driver said- Sir Avinashji’s cycle chain is broken, so he is walking on foot with the cycle in his hand. Garde sahib said – you drive the car, he will come with a cycle.
I was fortunate that I was his student and I adopted his punctuality in my life. With his blessings, I am leading my life with punctuality during my Vidyut Mandal service period and now even at the time of 23rd retirement, although there is 100% cooperation of Mrs. Blessed are such great men, so many respects to them.
